Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for the Waldemar Drinking Water System - May 27, 2025

Boil Water Advisory:

In an abundance of caution and as a precautionary measure, a boil water advisory has been issued for all residents connected to the municipal water supply in Waldemar in the Township of Amaranth. As of Tuesday,  May 27th, 2025 at 8:00 a.m., it is advised that residents boil their tap water or use bottled water for drinking, making infant formula or juice, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or brushing  their teeth. To use boiled water, it is recommended bringing water to a rolling boil for one minute then allowing it to cool. It may then be stored in clean containers.

A notice will be delivered to every residence once the boil water advisory has been lifted.

All notices will also be posted on the Township website: https://www.amaranth.ca/news-public-notices/

Background Information:

As many of you are aware, there has been on-going construction at the water system pump house related to water storage and pumping upgrades. The project is progressing towards completion and is at the stage where the switchover to new equipment is about to occur. During the switchover period, the Waldemar water system will be supplied by potable water that will be trucked in from another municipality. This will require installation of some external connections to the existing pipework and appurtenances.

It is anticipated that the switchover work will be completed on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025. All provincial disinfection procedures will be followed and there should be no interruption to service. Based on discussions with the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (the provincial regulating authority), it has been decided that we will issue a precautionary boil water advisory during this switchover period out of an abundance of caution. There are no water quality issues expected, however, the purpose of this precautional boil water advisory is a contingency to address the unlikely possibility that something unanticipated occurs.

Once the work is completed, Dufferin Water will collect water quality samples that will be sent to a third party laboratory. We anticipate those results would be available two (2) to three (3) days after the work is complete.

Once the results confirm that the water quality is acceptable, the advisory will be lifted, and residents will be notified via a second notice.
