CVC Watershed Condition Statement - Flood Watch 20260305
Date: March 5, 2026
Time: 5:45 PM
Statement Details
Credit Valley Conservation is advising that Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s (MNRF) Surface Water Monitoring Centre (SWMC) are forecasting warmer conditions, with temperatures expected to reach the up to 12 -17 degrees Celsius by Saturday the March 7, 2026. There is a weather system moving through the area, expected to bring in 15 -20mm of rain tonight.
The forecasted rain and warmer temperatures on Thursday may melt the snowpack, and the freezing rain will increase water levels along the Credit River. The snowpack throughout the Credit River Watershed contains a significant snow water equivalent, ranging from approximately 100 mm in the upper watershed to 50 mm in the lower watershed. Combined with the expected rainfall, this may cause some flooding along the Credit River and its major tributaries, as well as increased flows and water levels in low‑lying areas.
As temperatures rise, snow and ice melt will continue, and local streams and rivers may become icy and hazardous, particularly near culverts, bridges, and dams. River ice will continue to decay and may not contribute to ice jamming. Children should be warned to stay away from all water courses.
CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed. The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Sunday Mar-8-2026 or until further notice.
