National Day of Truth and Reconciliation - Orange Shirt Day September 30th

As we prepare to mark the first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, we’ve been thinking about our own commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples across the country, including those who reside in Dufferin County.

We encourage you to do the same and make time to expand and deepen your understanding and awareness of how colonialism impacted — and continues to impact — Indigenous communities. Learn about the traditional territories we live in and reflect on how we benefit from colonialism to this day.

We recommend reading the Indigenous History and Treaty Lands in Dufferin County resource guide, along with the Truth and Reconciliation Report and the 94 Calls to Action.

For those who live in Amaranth Township, the Dufferin County Cultural Resource Circle is hosting a Candle Vigil Walk to Medicine Wheel Garden on September 30 at the Alder Street Recreation Centre between 6:00 pm and 6:30pm.

The Town of Shelburne's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee is hosting an Orange Shirt Day walk at Greenwood Park on October 2 at 2pm.

Standing in solidarity,

Amaranth Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Community Advisory Committee (with thanks to the DEICAC)
