Grand River Watershed Conditions Statement - GRCA Flood Message #1: Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook

A low pressure system is forecast to move through the Grand River watershed beginning Thursday, April 11 through Friday, April 12, 2024, bringing as much as 40 to 50 mm of rain. There is also a risk of thunderstorms, which may increase rainfall amounts in localized areas. The rain will increase river flows throughout the watershed.

Based on the current forecast, no significant flooding is expected with this event. However, river flows in local waterways will be higher than normal for this time of year, increasing the risk in low-lying areas typically prone to flooding. River flows will remain elevated for several days, increasing the safety risk around rivers and streams throughout the watershed.

GRCA Reser­voirs

GRCA reservoirs are at their normal operating level for this time of year and will be operated to manage runoff and reduce downstream flooding.

Stay Safe

The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses.

River conditions and weather forecasts are being monitored closely. This message will remain in effect until noon on Friday, April 19, 2024. Updated flood messages will be issued as needed.
