DUFFERIN OPPS ASKS DRIVERS TO SHARE THE ROAD SAFELY WITH FARM VEHICLES

(DUFFERIN COUNTY, ON) - With harvest season upon us, you can expect to encounter farm equipment and other slow moving vehicles on the roadways of Dufferin County.

The Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is offering motorists safety tips on sharing the road with farm equipment:

  • Recognize slow moving vehicles travel at maximum speeds of 40 km/h. Slow down when you see farm equipment on the road and be prepared to stop.
  • Watch for left turns. Not all farm vehicles have turn signals. Watch for farm vehicle operators signaling a turn using the same hand signals that a bicycle rider would.
  • Long or broad farm equipment need to make wide turns. If a farm vehicle swings right, it may be starting a left turn.
  • A farm vehicle operator may be unable pull to the shoulder due to equipment weight. Wait for a safe opportunity to pass.
