CVC - Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has issued a provincial flood watch for Southern Ontario. A low-pressure system is set to traverse the province, Wednesday into Thursday, and bring along with it rainfall and continuous warm weather for much of the province. Cumulative rainfall of 20 to 35 mm is forecast for the two days in the Southern Region with higher amounts forecast in Southcentral/Southeast Ontario. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 5 to 15+ ᴼC in the Southern Region and between 5 to 10 ᴼC in the Southern sectors of the Northern Region. Nighttime temperature will also remain between 0 to 5+ ᴼC in the regions for the forecast period.

The Watershed is currently saturated from the thawing of the remainder of the snow packs. Any additional precipitation could result in increased water levels.  While flooding is not anticipated along the Credit River and downstream areas of its major tributaries, heavy downpours could result in flooding in urban and headwater areas.

All watercourses in the affected areas will experience higher water levels.  As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts, bridges and dams. Children and pets should be kept away from all watercourses.

The high water levels and velocities along the watercourses can be dangerous for kayaking, canoeing, tubing or any other form of recreational activity.  The public is urged to stay away from fast flowing waters.

CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed.  The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Fri-Apr-27-2018 or until further notice.
