CVC advises that Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s (MNRF) is forecasting a low-pressure weather system expecting to bring 10-20 mm of rainfall from Thursday, March 16^th through Friday, March 17^th. Air temperatures are expected to stay above the freezing mark overnight on Thursday, reaching 6 to 9^o C on Friday. The snowpack ranges from 25-30 cm in the upper watershed and will start melting with the upcoming rain and milder temperatures. Melting snow, rain, and frozen ground may produce approximately 40 mm of runoff.

The Credit River has little ice cover, so the risk for ice jams is low. No significant flooding is expected for this upcoming weather system.  However, all rivers and creeks within CVC’s watershed will experience higher than normal flows and water levels. As a result, local streams and rivers could become dangerous, especially around culverts, bridges, and dams.  Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.

CVC will continue to closely monitor weather and water levels in the watershed The Watershed Conditions Statement for Water Safety will be in effect through Saturday, March 18^th.
